halloweekend

Not the most original Halloween costume I've had, but on the fly, it turned out quite cute. Plus, I got to wear the adorable cowgirl hat that A got me. He's the best gift-giver ever, basically. And I'm still in love with my roommate's "Pebbles" costume. She made it last night, too! Talented girl.

The festivities were fun. I'm still pondering how so many people can cram into a tiny, basement apartment and still find air to breathe. Oh the mysteries of college life...

Happy Halloween! Don't forget to share what you're dressing up as - I want to know!

the tunnel

this is me, freshman year, overcoming obstacles :)

I've been a walking ball of stress for about.....hmm, the last 2 months? Do you remember me mentioning I'll be working full-time (sans school) next semester? It's my university's way of getting us buggers out in the real world. Well, when I embarked on this job search of mine, I had no idea setting up my own position out-of-state (outside of MA) would be such an ordeal. It has been 100x (ok, I exaggerate...) harder than I had ever expected, and to put it lightly, on top of school work, I've been a bit overloaded.

After three grueling months, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't have definite plans I can release to you readers just yet, but just know it's coming. And I'm SO excited and relieved, and totally amped for what's to come!

So...why do I have a cute picture of Jimmy Fallon noshing on a pen? I saw him perform stand-up last night, that's why. :) If you're wondering, he was good. I wasn't busting out of my seat laughing the whole time, be he had that awkwardly-cool-funny vibe to him. And he sings! Really well, too! His Justin Timberlake song cover/impression was definitely my favorite part of the show. That and his Robbin Williams impression: flawless.

Anyway, for $10, I had a great night. Yep, the ticket was only $10 because it was hosted at my school for Parent and Family Weekend. You guessed it, there were A LOT of parents there. Jimmy made fun of them and their "innocent" little college kids. :)

Anyone else going to be sad when we can't use our student status to score us discounts? Like at the movie theater - I'll have to pay a $1945730689.73 to go to the movies (because it is that much nowadays). Bananas, I tell you.

today

I love reading posts like this. It really changes my perspective; in a really awesome way.

Today

Today I am thinking about a lot of things.

The first is that I am so grateful for my little life - my apartment and the man and cat I live with - the nacho and brownie dinners, the records and the chores and falling asleep to LOST.

I love my mornings alone - getting up before 8, working for a couple of hours, sipping on coffee, planning my day, dreaming, scheming and such.

I love the diners sprinkled all over my neighborhood and ordering $3.50 breakfasts that are so big they make me want to skip lunch.

I’m thinking about how life is what you make it to be - how I left a job where I was under appreciated - how I made my passion into my job and strangers from around the world thank me for it - how I have fun and do what I want and set the worry to the back seat because in the end, everything will be fine and taken care of.

I am so happy and grateful.

girl power

Isn't is amazing just how many photos circulate around the blogs every single day? I feel like I'm always starring posts like a madwoman. Along the way, I always get inspired by ordinary girls just doin' their thang. Right now, I really like...

...her rings.

...her tights.

...her hair.

...her jacket.

...her outfit.

Right now, what I really want to do is snuggle up under my comforter and turn on one of my favorite films. With that in mind, here are some of my favorite movies. Stay tuned for the continuation of my list...

rainbow sherbet

jamie shows us how to make chaider

I caught the bug. Uggh! I thought I was going to be one of the lucky few that didn't get sick, because I practically never get sick, but I guess that's life. I'm going to fight this bugger like there's no tomorrow! With tea, airborne, vitamin D, naps, tons of water, and maybe some cartoons (i.e. The Simpsons) to make me feel like a little kid again.

I remember, whenever I had a sore throat as a child, my Mom would give me rainbow sherbet with sprite poured on top. The sherbet cooled and soothed my throat, and sprite's bubblies worked wonders on an upset tummy. Did anyone else ever have this combo? I didn't have it too often, but I'm sure I would have faked being sick all the time if that was the case! Just kidding...I was a good kid. :)

my weekend // in short

Is it really Monday already?? Before I face the music, here's what went down over the weekend:

1. DANCING

2. A LONG RUN

3. DINNER IN THE NORTH END

4. AN AMBULANCE RIDE (not for me, and just a false alarm, but still scary)

5. STUDYING: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS + FINANCE
all photos by my new favorite, Lorena Arance.

Yes, it had it's ups and downs...so maybe I'm glad this is a new week, and we can all start fresh. You with me?

P.S. Did I mention is snowed yesterday? Yes, SNOWED.

berry walnut loaf

I did a little baking last week, and I couldn't wait to share the recipe. This is by far the best loaf I've ever made, and get this: whole wheat and no butter. Skeptical? Ok. But try it out and surprise yourself. :)

Based off this recipe
, here are the details:

3 over-ripe bananas
1/3 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup cane sugar
2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup frozen berries
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Cook at 350
° in a 9x5-inch loaf pan for approx. 60 minutes.
Note: this bread isn't made to be super sweet, so if you want it more dessert-like, I'd add 1/4 cup more sugar.

Going along with my theme from yesterday, Anthropologie launched a collection in collaboration with Ruffian. Check out the article here.

I'm really into the the whole essence of Brian Ferry's photography; it's rough, nostalgic, modest sensibilities. See more on his blog, the blue hour.

big news for anthro

shots from Anthro's catalog

Did you hear the news? Anthropologie is opening it's first European store on October 23rd in LONDON. I have no doubt it will be a smashing success. I wonder how they're tailoring their clothes to the British aesthetic, if at all...

Also, did anyone else get the memo that Winter was coming early? It's a whole ten degrees colder in Boston today than it was yesterday...I'm confused!

Off to combat the 41° weather with a steaming mug of tea...
