The stars of our trip were most definitely the animals. A. and I were lucky enough to be invited by a friend to tour her family's wildlife (
read: African) reserve. I never knew Austin, TX and the plains of Africa had similar climates, but alas, they do! (Fun fact #1) I also learned that kangaroos are super protective and kind of grouchy sometimes, giraffes like apples, rhinoceros tusks are made of the same material (keratin) as hair and fingernails, and parrots are flirts (
see winking parrot below). I would really love to see these guys (and girls) in the wild someday.
Without further ado, the stars of this show..................................
I actually have a ton more photos taken with my new Nikon N80 film camera but haven't had the time to scan them all in. Coming soon. After all this moving craziness has resided.
lovely pictures! and that's interesting how you say austin + africa have similar climates. all these animals look like the ones i saw on a safari when i co-oped in cape town!
ReplyDeletegood luck with moving :)
Wow these photos are lovely! Giraffes have the most gorgeous skin/fur/? This must have been a fun day.
ReplyDeleteAfrican wildlife?!?! I learned something new too thanks to your blog!! How amazing to have an African reserve while you grow up... can you imagine the first hand bio lessons you would simply grow up with? Nerd moment... haha
ReplyDeletealli -- speaking of cape town, i CANNOT wait for the World Cup. So. Excited.
ReplyDeleteany -- the giraffes had such incredible fur, agreed!...you rub it one way and it's coarse, then the other way and its super smooth.
sk -- i'm totally with you. it reminds me of indian girls' trips to the zoo we'd make when i was little. so fun! unfortunately, the reserve has only been up and running for a few years, so she didn't grow up there. BUT there's a little baby of the wildlife experts on the reserve that WILL get that experience!
I love the giraffes! So friendly :)
